Hyperthyroidism

I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroid last week. I was feeling very tired and sleepy all the time , have problem writing properly , my signatures in my credit card bills and in my new passport were all so different from my previous old signatures. Each and every one were so different . There are slight slur in my speech and I have lost a total of 9 kg the past 4 months despite good appetite. My hands and legs tremble all the time and it got worse recently when my hands tremble so bad and have no strength to even lift up my dog who weighs about 8.6 kg. I consulted a doctor last week and did a blood test and the result was no good and very disappointing.

Dear friends if you have any relatives or friends or yourself having this problem , kindly share with me your experience , I greatly appreciate.

Oh.. My friend had this too, and he was only 27 when he had this.
He took on a very bad temper and it was just another person.
He then did a blood test and found his hyperthyrodism 4 times more of normal.. (roughly of what I remember). He then took medication and he went back alright.

I'm so sorry to hear that but don't get over-stressed otherwise it will only make matters worse. It's not the end of the world. You do need to take medication to keep it under control while building up your body, like freshly made juices, sea weed etc. I was a sufferer many years ago and lost a lot of weight like you. My eyes looked like frog's eyes, my throat looked big, my hands were very shaky, couldn't study and my temper was chili padi! But I'm fine today, still go for yearly checkup. You may want to consider reading Dr Peter Adamo's book on Eat Right for Your Type.....food according to your blood group. There are certain food that affects our tyroid functions and need to avoid esp for thyroid sufferers. Please take care. Mary

Not to worry too much as stress will make it worst. It's not life threatening. I had this problem and is now cured. Please see a doctor and take the medication as prescribed.

Please avoid heaty, oil and spicy food.

Important: DON'T STRESS

Thank you friends for your kind concern.

Mary , I have very bad temper too ! Sometimes I'd just burst into tears for nothing , I feel so sorry for my hub and my kids , they have to endure my crazy outburst. I was prescribed Propranolol and Carbimazole and I've read online that these medications can cause harm to my liver and kidneys so I am quite reluctant to take them everyday.

Hi, many years back, i got this thyroid problem too, lost a lot of weight, eyes were popping out like gold fish, throat looked big, hands shaky, and very bad temper.
When I was pregnant, my Gyne recommended a specialist at NUH. So even though I was pregnant, I continue the medicine as recommended by the specialist (lesser dosage). I think 6 mths or a year after I've given birth, my thyroid problem have gone after checked and tested by the specialist. In fact I was very worried that my kids would have this problem. But my pediatrician confirm clear after tests were done at different ages (from the time they were born till about 2/3 yrs old).
I'll find out the contact of this specialist and give you soonest possible. Meanwhile, take care of yourself..

I am sure the doctors prescribed you some hormone tablet to regulate this condition..give it 3-4 weeks to work. You should be allright.

Pearlyn,
I was searching for information about cabbage and I found that cabbage can inhibit production of thyroid hormones. Actually not only cabbage, everything in that family of Crucifers, which are Kailan, Choysum, brocolli, baby kailan(brussels sprouts), mustard (kai choy), siew pak choy, bak choy are all crucifers or some call brassicas. So eating more of these will help your glands to produce less thyroid hormones. At least this way is natural. If you have any questions about the type of vegetable, you can ask me, I have a background in Horticulture. I hope that you will get better soon.

I am so sorry to hear about this. A friend of mine has it and she is now on medications. I have to check with her about this. You do take care and hope you will be well soon.

hi, I have had this thyroid problem like you since 1998 and after taking the medicine I recovered quite fast. Unfortunately it came back after every 2 years as I do not take care of what I eat, I think. Broccoli and royal jelly are good but not iodised salt. I like seafood but I have to control the frequent consumption of it though. Please do not take Pharmaton and supplement that contains iodine. Do not think about it too much and try to think positive although you might be very emotional and weak at the moment, the medicine will cure you and the doctor will check your blood frequently to make sure that the dose prescribed is accurate. My father and my sister have also this problem. My case is not normal but I have accepted the fact. Many women got this thyroid problem only once in their life time, so no worry. Get well soon. a visitor from Germany

Yesterday I was told by my doctor that I have hyperthyroidism. It has developed over maybe 3-4months, I was very sick, throwing up bile and weak, which is the only reason I even went to the doctors. Once I was told about the condition, I realised that my thyroids were swollen and my neck was quite large and i hadnt noticed before, I was also shaking like someone with parkinsons. It was so bad to the point i couldnt open doors because I felt they were too heavy. I hope the medication will help, but I do not want to have an under active thyroid either.

I'm 22 years old and I'm also one of the hyperthyroid patients. My doctor's prescribed me with 2 types of medications and I need to eat like 12 tablets a day.
Yes, temper is the most common symptoms for me. Also, the skin itchiness, popping eyes, insomnia, excessive sweating etc.
